1) Based on the abstract, tables and figures, are the outcomes clinically relevant to you?
2) Does the study compare different groups?

3) Was a sample size calculation done?
   
4) Are reporting guidelines followed, or at least, are methods and outcomes described enough for you to replicate the study
        
5) Did researchers actively assign animals AND treatments to groups?[i.e. pre-existing groups were not passively identified)
        
6) Were animals randomly assigned to groups and the method of randomization described?
        
Results
7) Do authors report results for all outcomes described in methods?
        
8) Was size (n=) for each group AND Confidence Interval (CI)
Discussion
9) Do authors discuss study limitations?
10) Do results support all conclusions?
        
* “Yes” answers support investing more time to consider the paper thoroughly.
“No” answers indicate a characteristic associated with risk of bias is present.
